Budget Track, Volume 8, Track 1

  • 2011

This issue of Budget Track takes a comprehensive look at the National Food Security Act (enacted in 2013), the centrality of the issue of right to food, and the various aspects of the legislation including universality and the role of the Public Distribution System. This issue also recognises the predicament of the government in its endeavours to ensure that every individual in the country has the right to food on one hand, and on the other its manoeuvres to accomplish this through an extremely tedious procedure that would eliminate a huge proportion of the country’s population from being eligible for this basic entitlement.
