A day after the passage of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Constitutional Amendment Bill by Rajya Sabha, the Revenue Secretary (Union Ministry of Finance), Mr. Hasmukh Adhia presented a roadmap for the implementation of GST in the country. He announced 1 April 2017 as the targeted date for GST roll out.

He highlighted establishment of Legal Framework, preparation of IT infrastructure and change management (training of officials & staff and outreach & consultation with trade & industry) as the major steps required to enable the roll out by the intended deadline.

He also mentioned about the commissioning of GST Network (GSTN), a Not-for-profit, Non- Government Company that will provide shared IT infrastructure and services to Central and State Governments, tax payers and other stakeholders.

In addition to the above, he also talked about the registration process, ease in filling of returns and major challenges involved in the roll out.
