Webinar on Social Sector Budget & Excluded Communities 25 January, 2022

COVID-19 pandemic has turned into a humanitarian crisis with millions losing their livelihoods. That crisis has exposed the massive deficiencies in India’s health and education systems, the lack of proper social security for disadvantaged communities (SCs, STs and religious minorities), and the paucity of decent jobs for the working population. To be sure, these deficiencies did not come about overnight but are the consequence of consistent neglect over the years.

The scale of the crises that have engulfed India’s disadvantaged communities requires an effective policy and budgetary response from the Union Government. The significance of feedback to the government from civil society on the many measures it can take to help the millions who have lost their livelihoods cannot be exaggerated. The formulation process of the Union Budget provides an excellent opportunity to provide this feedback highlighting issues on the ground and sharing recommendations on how best they can be addressed.

Against this backdrop, NCDHR and CBGA had organised a Webinar on Social Sector Budget & Excluded Communities on Tuesday, January 25th, from 2:30 to 5:30 pm. The Webinar focused on various challenges faced by disadvantaged communities in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
